Performance. Culture. Community.
The In-season Trap
Many athletes and parents believe that once the competitive season starts, the "hard work" in the gym is done. In reality, stopping strength work mid-season is the single biggest mistake a competitive athlete can make.
When strength training stops:
- Neuromuscular power drops within 2–3 weeks.
- Force production and sprint speed decline, leaving athletes sluggish down the stretch.
- Injury risk skyrockets as fatigue accumulates and joint stability breaks down.
By the time playoffs roll around, an undertrained athlete is at their weakest and most vulnerable. This "in-season slide" is where winnable games are lost and preventable injuries happen.

How We Train Our Athletes In-Season: The Peak Performance Blueprint
At Ignite Athletic Club, in-season training isn't about breaking athletes down or leaving them sore for game day—it's about keeping their engine primed, firing, and resilient.
We train our athletes 2 days per week for 45–60 minutes, focusing on four foundational principles:
1. High Intensity, Low Volume (Preserving Power Without Fatigue)
To stay fast and explosive, you must train fast and heavy—but with minimal volume. We keep reps low (typically 2–5 reps) while keeping neural drive high. This maintains high-threshold motor unit recruitment without causing the muscle soreness (DOMS) that impairs game-day performance.
2. Joint Integrity & Injury Resilience
In-season demands take a heavy toll on knees, hamstrings, ankles, and shoulders. Our in-season programming heavily targets:
- ACL & Knee Protection: Deceleration mechanics, single-leg stability, and landing mechanics.
- Hamstring Health: Eccentric strengthening and high-velocity sprinting reps to protect against strains.
- Rotational & Core Stability: Protecting the lower back and shoulders for multi-directional sports.
3. Velocity & Rate of Force Development (RFD)
Games are won in milliseconds. We utilize jump variations, medicine ball throws, and Olympic-style dynamic movements to ensure athletes maintain maximum velocity and explosive first-step quickness deep into the season.
4. Dynamic Readiness & Load Management
Every athlete enters the facility in a different physical state depending on their game schedule and playing time. We assess daily fatigue and adjust intensity or volume dynamically so athletes leave the floor feeling energized, primed, and confident: never depleted.
"In-season strength work isn't an extra burden; it's your insurance policy against fatigue and injury."
Maintaining The Standard
One of the things that makes Ignite Athletic Club different is the atmosphere. It’s an intentional asset. When you walk onto the training floor, you can feel that it’s a place where work gets done.
As we gear up for a busy season, we want to make sure that positive energy stays at 100%. To do that, we’re circling back to The Ignite Standard.

This isn't about a list of "don'ts". It’s about the professional habits that allow our athletes (and your kids) to train with total focus. From "stripping the bar" to respecting the "line of sight" during a heavy lift, these small details are what keep our training floor the premier spot in the city.
We’ve put together a quick guide on the blog to ensure we’re all leading by example and protecting the culture we’ve built together.
